Highway Department

MISSION
The Talladega County Highway Department’s mission is the economical construction and maintenance of all County maintained roads and bridges.  This includes 1,000 miles of paved and unpaved roads, 115 bridge structures, drainage structures along and under our roads, over eight thousand signs, miles and miles of centerline and edge line stripe, hundreds of square feet of pavement markings and legends. In addition, the County provides "in-kind" services to Childersburg, Gantt's Quarry, Sylacauga, Lincoln, Waldo, Munford, Oak Grove, Talladega and Talladega Springs.  Once a year the shoulders are mowed and sprayed with herbicide twice per year.

The Highway Department is divided into three divisions:  Engineering, Maintenance, Shop/Equipment.  Engineering writes the applications for State and Federal Funding to resurface roads, perform safety improvement projects, replace and inspect bridges, draw the plans, manages and inspects the work done on Federal and State funded projects, issues and enforces permits to work within the County's Right-of-Way, performs boundary and quantitative surveys as part of county construction projects and other projects. Maintenance maintains pavement, signs, and shoulders.  The Shop maintains all County vehicles and construction equipment.
