Information for Parents and Teachers

What will happen to school children during a CSEPP emergency?

Public and private schools, within the Immediate Response Zone (IRZ) or the Protective Action Zone (PAZ), are developing emergency plans in case of an unlikely event at the Anniston Army Depot. Options are to shelter in place (in some cases a specifically enhanced room) or to relocate students by bus to other schools outside the IRZ or PAZ. PARENTS SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO PICK UP THEIR CHILDREN AT SCHOOL! This would possibly cause traffic and safety problems for children who are being evacuated or for those who are sheltering in place. If your child must be relocated, they will be transported by a school bus to a "host" school outside of the emergency zones for their safety. They will be moved safely under adult supervision. News and information on the Emergency Alert System will tell you which schools will shelter in place. If an evacuation is ordered, your local EAS stations will also tell you where you can meet your child when the emergency is over.

What plans should I make for picking up my children at school?

Do not attempt to pick up children from school. Doing so will put you and your child in more danger because you could be exposed to chemical agents while driving. If schools are evacuating, the extra traffic you create could hinder evacuation efforts. Schools are developing plans to evacuate or shelter your children safely.

If an evacuation is ordered for school children, you will be told on the Emergency Alert System where to pick them up once you both have been evacuated safely.

Parents - do your part in helping us to keep your child safe?

The hardest part … DO NOT GO TO THE SCHOOL! Your child will be safe. Keep yourself safe. Those parents who insist on going to the school are exposing themselves to potential danger as well as their children.

Schools are ready to do their part in protecting your child. Be ready to do yours. Protect yourself as advised by listening to your local Emergency Alert System (EAS) stations.

Because your child's' safety comes first.
